Walking into the small cafe, the petite figured female inhaled the aroma wafting around the area. Grinning softly to herself, and pleased by the smell, she traveled to the counter, hands held at her sides. "'N I have an apple cider, please?" she asked, more than ordered. Sawyer just wasn't the sort of girl that would order anything. She was too soft-spoken to do that. Heck, she was too soft spoken to talk to anyone she didn't know. Perhaps that was why she didn't have many friends. Because she didn't ta-- "Ma'am?" Damn. Too absorbed in her thoughts, again. Sawyer needed to stop doing that. It was like day-dreaming, but not really...dreaming. Just day-thinking. "Thanks," she said--scratch that--she whispered.
And now the girl had to find somewhere to sit. Smoothing out her long gray and black striped sweater, she maneuvered her way to a table near the back of the place, and in the far left corner. From there, she could see everyone and out of the window, but most people wouldn't notice her. Perfect.

Gently pushing the doors of the Cafe open, the female eased herself inside, instantaneously stepping towards the counter. This establishment wasn't exactly one she usually frequented, but it was definitely a welcome from the blistering cold weather outside. Really though, she could have just remained in her house in front of a toasty fire, but her mother had chased her from the comforts of her warm abode. Why? The woman said she studied and read too much, and there was no reason to do so during the Holidays. Alexis on the other hand, thought she was nuts, but whatever. She'd respect her wishes -- this time.
Ordering a small cup French Roast, which somehow managed to become a personal favorite over the years, she patiently waited as the lady attended to her order. Adjusting the strap of her laptop bag, she lightly held unto it, a small smirk playing about her lips. She'd just read online. How was that for beating the system?
Thanking the woman as she was handed her warm drink, Alex in turn paid her for it, only just then turning to find a place to sit at. Pursing her lips, she peered through lavender rimmed prescription glasses at the patrons, knowing she'd be better off sitting alone. After all, she didn't do well in social situations at all. Gently biting at her lower lip, she noted a girl in the back corner, sitting alone and seemingly friendly. However, approaching her was not on Alex's list of things to do. Not because she thought the girl wasn't cool enough to hang out with, but because approaching people wasn't her area of expertise.
Moving towards the back of the place as well, she took a seat at a table next to the girl though, setting up camp as she did -- styrofoam cup next to now hooked up laptop. Removing the black knit cap from her blonde locks, which were down to cascade about her shoulders this day, she set it upon her faded blue jean clad lap, and threaded her fingers through her hair. Now to find a good online novel to read.

Sawyer noticed the girl sit near her, but figured it was a coincidence. It always was. Well, not really always, but she always seemed to think it was. Well, whatever. She wasn't going to start any conversations--she never had and she never would. Instead, Sawyer picked up her cardboard-ish cup and sipped on her hot beverage.
Turning toward the window, Sawyer now watched the people on the sidewalk pass by. They looked so cold, and some of them pretty lonely as well. She sort of wondered why they didn't just go into one of the buildings and sit around--it was bound to be warmer inside. But of course, they probably had something to do. They probably had a social schedule. Probably.
After her little thinking session, she wasn't sure what to do. Still, she was going to drink her cider, but other than that she had no idea. Maybe...maybe just sit back and relax. Maybe take her own laptop out--yea, she had one. Most students in the big city had one; they practically couldn't survive without one. It was just another one of those necesseties of NYCers. Just like money, physical fitness, and beauty. And Sawyer had three of the four. You guess which.

Unlike most people, Alexis didn't have a laptop to keep in contact with anyone. After all, her inbox was probably empty, making her wonder why she even had an e-mail address in the first place. Oh right. For school related stuff. The sole purpose of her purchasing the thing in the first place. There was no music to be found on it. No messengers... Actually she did have the messengers, but their presence was more than likely Eric's doing. Why he got on her computer when he had his own was a mystery to her. Anyway.
Clicking on one of the sites in her list of favorites, she removed her hand from the keyboard long enough to sip her coffee, and then tug gently at the black turtleneck sweater which was gracing her torso. Sliding her gaze from the screen, she settled it upon her neighbor, absently watching the girl stare through the window. Maybe I should talk to her, she thought, but that was something regular on this girl's mind. Talking to people but never getting the nerve to do it. She looked back at her screen, seeing as the site was fully loaded, but she didn't click on any options. Instead her gaze returned to the girl, trying to figure what she should do.
"Hi," she said finally, having made a decision. Her voice didn't come out perky, bored or quiet. No. It was more of a 'I got up the nerve to talk to you so please don't snub me' sort of way, but certainly the other girl didn't read that far into it. To her it would probably just be a simple 'hello'.

Looking away from the window, and toward the person that had spoken, Sawyer simply looked at the female for a second. She was the girl that had sat next to her. Maybe it hadn't actually been an accident. Maybe she simply needed--or wanted--to make friends as well. And since she'd started the conversation, if that was what it was to become, Sawyer might actually talk to her. Well, she would definitely talk to her, but she might actually end up having a good conversation. But that was only might. She might only talk for a couple of minutes, then end up IMing her friends. The ones who didn't live in NYC. The ones back in Albany, and the ones who had gone away to go to a different college.
"Hello," Sawyer said simply, a small shadow of a smile flickering across her lips. It didn't last for very long; only a fraction of a second, if that. "My name's Sawyer," she added, just to be polite. After all, it was only a matter of time before they'd get to the introductions. What not start sooner, rather than later?

Almost expelling a breath of relief when the girl responded positively, Alexis allowed for a small smile to tug at the corners of her lips. "Alexis," she introduced herself after the girl had done so. "Good to meet you Sawyer." She'd never seen this girl around the city before, as even though she wasn't friends with a lot of people, the 'strangers' had fallen into her line of vision once or twice. Lightly chewing on the inside corner of her lip for a moment, she asked, "So you from around here? The city I mean?" It seemed like the right question to ask, as Sawyer could just be vacationing over here or something. This wasn't strange, especially during the holidays.
Dragging her fingernail along the side of her styrofoam cup, she skimmingly ran her gaze over the other patrons before once again settling her bright blue eyes on Sawyer, though the impact of them was diminished by the glasses situated on her face. The only person who truly cared that they weren't being used to their full effects was her mother, and of course her opinion wasn't so important to Alex -- most of the time.

"I'm from New York, yes, but originally from Albany. I just moved here for college. What about you?" Sawyer asked, letting the grin slowly fade from her face. "I don't believe I've seen you around," she added, though she paused all other thoughts to remember if she actually had seen this female around before or not. Perhaps out of the corner of the eye, but nothing obvious that deserved rememberance in her brain.
Turning away from the other female, she typed fervishly on her keyboard for a second, eyebrows lightly furrowed. After closing the electronic device, however, she simply wet her lips slightly. Now focused on the conversation, rather than the rude IMs she had been recieving, she took a sip of her beverage and let her eyes roam momentarily around the cafe, then back to the young woman with whom she was talking.
Having nothing else to say, Sawyer just continued to sip down her drink and nibble occasionally at her lip. Perhaps after Alex answered, she'd have more to say, but until then, she had nothing. Well, close enough to nothing to be called such, anyway. Close enough. [[Bad. Sorreh.]]
